I treat a variety of mental health concerns and hold my limited permit in mental health counseling (P112560) under the supervision of Janet Cerra, LMHC (Lic. No. 001587) of Counseling Solutions.
About Me
I graduated with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Canisius University (formerly Canisius College). I am experienced in providing Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I also specialize in working with trauma, employing crisis counseling and intervention, as well as responding to grief and loss. Additionally, I implement a solution-focused approach while providing information, resources, and referrals in the community. I am knowledgeable in developmental disabilities, neurodiversity, and the services available to the population. In addition to counseling services, I can provide goal-directed advocacy and skill-building strategies.
I completed Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) basic training in February 2024 provided by Kendhal Hart, PsyD, LPC-S, and Kristie Boggs, LPC. I approach clients who embark on the journey of reprocessing by asking the question, “What does a certain core belief say about you as a person?" We will use the information to identify a negative cognition and a preferred positive belief to process difficult memories. The process of EMDR can be lengthy and challenging, so I encourage you to ask questions and provide feedback along the way.

Treatment Approach
I provide person-centered, individual counseling tailored to the unique needs of my clients. I have a holistic approach to counseling that treats the whole person including physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health. Every client's unique story is viewed from a trauma-informed perspective, and together, we will explore the impact of adversity on the way you view yourself, others, and the world. The therapeutic process is meant to be client-centered and collaborative; please feel free to ask questions and provide feedback throughout our journey together.
Counseling Philosophy
My counseling philosophy is derived from psychodynamic and motivational interviewing theories, and I can employ crisis intervention strategies as well as Christian-based counseling upon request. My goal is to help clients achieve their best sense of self and enhance their quality of life. I have a holistic approach to counseling, which is provided in a safe, nonjudgmental environment for self-expression. I believe that clients can receive support and guidance in exploring the issues that are difficult to handle alone.
Personal Interests
In my spare time, I like to cuddle with my three cats and try new restaurants with friends. I also enjoy singing and watching reality TV/medical dramas when I am not writing or playing with stimulating apps. I like to volunteer and help people achieve a sense of safety when experiencing a “hot moment”. Bringing them to a “cool calm” gives me a sense of satisfaction; knowing that I can use my personal experiences to relate to clients allows me to show that I am human, too.
